Ok, to be fair I have only brewed one batch of beer using this item. After reading reviews on various sites for the Anvil Kettle Strainer I was not sure what to expect. It seemed most either loved it or had terrible experiences with it but it came highly recommended by a home brewing personality so I thought I would give it a shot. I had struggled with many other straining solutions before this and had been frustrated batch after batch with clogged plate chillers. First batch out of the gate a five gallon IPA with 2.5 ounces of hops added throughout the boil and 6.5 ounces added for a whirlpool addition, all in the kettle with this strainer. I honestly did not think this product would hold up. I was wrong, performed like a champ, no clogs, in the kettle, no clogs in the plate chiller. I can’t wait to test it again on my next batch. Very small investment for the frustrations it appears to have alleviated.

The only reason it’s not 5 star is that the braid is too open in some areas, particularly near the fitting junction. It lets some grain and hops into the outflow in this area. It is still very effective but it would be nice if it stopped all particulate from entering my downstream heat exchanger. If the openings could be tightened up, it would be a perfect device.
